Creative Postcard Ideas

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Postcards have become one of the easiest and cheapest direct mail pieces because of the design software and program support available. Many companies are designing their own marketing literature by taking advantage of the design tips available through books, online articles, and blogs. After researching advice on color use, headlines, layout, and more, sometimes the vast amount of information can bog down the creative juices. Below are some ideas for postcard printing that may help jump start your unique design.

The Front is Back
Move away from conventional postcard layouts by using the address side of the postcard for the attention-getting information. This can actually be a very effective design because most mail carriers deliver the mail address-side-up. When prospects are shuffling through their mail, they will see your catchy headline, benefits, and call to action without needing to flip over the postcard. Use the reverse side for extra information, helpful tidbits, or consumer reviews.

Unavoidable News
Instead of sending a conventional newsletter, create a postcard newsletter for increasing readability. Who has time to read a full-sized newsletter anyway? Now your clients can skim through the information while walking from the mailbox to the front door. An oversized postcard has plenty of space for a few short articles, a bulleted list of tips, a quotation, your contact information, a call to action, and a nameplate, not to mention the necessary mailing information. The key is to be very precise with your words.

Ticket to the Good Life
Double your postcards as a ticket to an event, such as an open house or customer appreciation cookout. Make the customer feel important by incorporating such phrases as “VIP Guest” and explaining what their special status will get them when they attend the activity.

Hang Around a While Longer
Most postcards have a short lifespan. Once clients skim the information, they usually throw the postcard away and often forget about your company until the next round of mailouts. Design a mini-calendar imprinted with your logo for a postcard that continues to your company long after the customer is finished reading the information. Stick with 3 or 6 month calendars for readability purposes.

Although you do need to be consistent with your image, avoid using the same layout for every postcard. Consumers are attracted to businesses that have the ability to be at the forefront of new ideas. So change your postcard printing every so often for a direct mail campaign that remains fresh and exciting.

The modus operandi for marketing within a franchise organization must necessarily change when the organization goes from 10 locations to 50 or more, but unfortunately many organizations fail to keep pace with their own growth. However, at the same time by doing so you may be giving up the economies of scale associated with centralizing your direct mail and promotional goods sourcing. From Pain To Power: Turning Sh*t Into D*amonds, Part One; The Roots of Grief

1-2-3-4-5-6…

…and on until I catch myself and stop counting. It is a compulsion that I have, and it only surfaces when I’m swallowing liquids. I count Virginia Lemon Laws gulps. It only lasts a few beats, but, for some odd reason, which perhaps I’ll discover here, I do nothing to fight the compulsion. When I do catch myself and stop, it is most often with a chuckle, as in, “It’s amazing how this habit got rooted so deeply in me.”

Luckily, I know how it took root. It was (seemingly) indelibly imprinted on me around the time I was six years old. That was an even tougher year than the ones preceding it. From the time I was about four and a half until six, I found it almost impossible to keep safeauto down, and promptly vomited after each meal. When I was finally weaned from this behavior, it was done by filling a book with columns of little sticky stars; one for each meal, and, at first, another for each hour I was able to keep my meal down.

So many stars in a row and I’d get a toy. It was then that I began counting the number of swallows that I kept down. Apparently, the compulsive counting of food swallows has faded hosted exchange services over 45+ years, but this is not so with liquids.

My relationship with food was a reflection of a number of consolidating student loans One was being witness to meal after meal being prepared by my mother. At the time she was bitterly disappointed by life, in seething rages much of the time, and, while cooking, would be expressing her pain incessantly and aloud. It was all coming in to me. Being rather sensitive, I would absorb the anger that came through her whenever I was around her, but during those meal prep times while I was in the kitchen doing my homework, I could sense that the food I would be eating absorbed it as well.

Paradoxically, the impulse to vomit provided me a dependable source of comfort. I would usually go right to the kitchen sink after eating, or the bathroom if I could make it, and while I vomited, my mother would come to my side and put her hand on my shoulder to comfort me. She was touch-phobic, and in years of scanning my memories to find evidence to the contrary, I’ve come to the conclusion that that was the only way I could get her to touch or physically comfort me.

At around six years old, another thing had begun to happen. Though my mother was not physically abusive with me outside of the occasional swat on the ass, in second grade I started getting beatings in school by a twisted nun, who, as it turned out, was only the first of many twisted nuns to follow.

1957 was the year when IQ tests became the rage in Brooklyn, and I had the misfortune of scoring third highest in the Catholic school I was attending. I would imagine, living in the home I lived in, I didn’t pick up too much of a desire to excel at anything, for the majority of my energy was being spent in surviving. The nuns felt they had the right, if not obligation, to beat the “laziness” out of me.

Basically, I was quite the wreck on all levels. My mother carted me from doctor to doctor to find out what was wrong with me. She was on an incessant quest to correct the things wrong with my being. This was a significant part of my early years, and I, literally, carry the scars with me.

Next: Seeking solid ground.

4 Steps to Easy Brochure Printing

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

When you have info that you need to get out to your customers and prospects, a brochure can be the best way to do that. Brochure printing is a painless process that can get you outstanding results.

Brochures are versatile, homeowners insurance makes them a handy and cost effective marketing tool. You can use brochures to give out more info after a sales meeting, to use as a handout at trade shows or to mail to get sales leads. Brochures are more likely to be kept than postcards or flyers. Here are the basic steps to take to create eye-catching brochures that will win customers.

1. Choose your paper and size.

Your paper is the first consideration in brochure printing. You need to decide Fluvoxamine the color of the paper (light and whimsical or dark and serious?) and the size. The size is generally a standard sheet of paper 8.5″ x Paxil folded into Pennsylvania Lemon Laws or halves. Your brochure can be almost any size you would like and in any shape you would like.

To print brochures in different shapes, like a birthday cake for a cake shop, you will spend more money at the printer, but the effect will be well worth it.

Brochure paper comes in different thicknesses and glosses so you need to choose which thicknesses and coatings give off the feel of your brand. Too thin and you will seem cheap; hosted exchange services thick and your brochure might not fold easily and no one wants to deal with a persnickety brochure! A persnickety brochure equals a persnickety business.

2. Choose your design.

You have got bi-fold, tri-folds and Z-folds. You have got logos and photos to account for. You need some white space (blank space) to give customers’ eyes and brains a break from reading your enrapturing copy. You also need to make sure you have three key elements somewhere on your brochure: your company’s name, your tagline and your logo. These elements should not be on your front cover. Your front cover is reserved for a jaw-dropping photo or a headline that draws people into your brochure. You can get more detailed info on brochure design by Googling “good brochure design.”

3. Write the brochure copy.

Your brochure copy will depend upon your focus for the brochure. If it is introducing a new product to a new market, you will need to include some background on your company and your product line. If you are trying to get sales leads, you will need to boast about your benefits and how you have benefited people just like the ones you are trying to reach. Use short sentences that are easy to read - do not use any industry jargon here. Make sure your brochure copy follows a logical thought process for the reader. First introduce your product, then give some benefits, then some testimonials then answer some questions that might arise, then more benefits, then features, then ordering info. Whew. Are we done yet?

4. Send that puppy to the printer!

Four-color brochures look much better than black-and-whites. But hey, if all you can afford right now are black-and-white brochures, print ‘em. Make sure your photo files are in the correct file format (your printer can give you guidelines) and that you have proofread everything. Then email or mail your brochure file and bask in the glory of your successful brochure printing mission! Don’t get too comfy though, because those brochures will not walk themselves to mailboxes.

Descent Into the Underworld Reaps Empowerment Coaching For the Journey Through the Shadowland

Monday, October 27th, 2008

The desire to avoid discomforts of all kinds lies at the root of much of the frustrations, unhappiness, life insurance cover self-sabotage I see Home mortgages for bad credit my coaching practice. Many otherwise successful individuals cannot tolerate feeling difficult emotions. That’s too bad, because often the way out of such misery is a route that goes through the underworld.

In a psycho-shamanic sense, the underworld can be thought of as the portion of our subconscious mind where unresolved psychological, emotional, relational, or spiritual traumas live, and where we must call on our personal power in order to do battle with them. Sometimes these demons are repressed memories, unforgiven hurts, or distorted beliefs that have grown into dysfunctional rulers of our lives. Sometimes they are the darker, irrational impulses and the unlovely, disowned parts of ourselves - what Jung called the shadow.

When There’s No Apparent Reason for Shame

Sherry’s story is typical of many women’s experience. She’s professionally respected, has meaningful relationships, and feels like she’s not living up to her potential. Although she makes choices with integrity, she feels like a fraud, and as if she’ll never be good enough - a common complaint that brings successful women into coaching.

She has no history of major personal trauma, but persistent patterns of well-intended parental criticism have been internalized as humiliation and ridicule. She has a subconscious expectation that she’ll never succeed if she makes choices that are different from what her parents (and later, any authority figure) think best.

Sherry couldn’t tolerate looking at her normal patterns of reactivity. Feeling less than perfect is a source of misery, and she tends to run from the shame, resulting in undue worry and unhappiness, a sense of losing her power. Her best efforts to ignore the internal shame-demons only led to unconsciously self-sabotaging behaviors. Sherry wanting a coach to partner with her while she looked her demons in the eye.

When The Light is Clearer in the Dark

After conquering cancer, surviving divorce, and having some business setbacks, Mikayla finally had a great life. But inside she felt lost, sad, and rudderless.

In her youth she’d had a vague sense of there being something important she was supposed to do, and now in her 50s she believed time was running out. Aware that she functioned well in crises, she didn’t best car insurance quote to have to attract a calamity in order to feel clear-minded and purposeful again.

A building sense of urgency combined with confusion prompted Mikayla to seek coaching in order to shine more light into the darker corners of her choices, to see clearly how to understand her true life purpose, and what directions to take to move forward. Having a solid sense of trust in herself, Mikayla was a good coaching candidate for an underworld journey and some shadow work.

Why Journey into the Shadowland

For those who have gained no relief from more conventional approaches to life dissatisfaction, the shadow work of the underworld may be a useful alternative technique. In the coaching sense, this technique retrains your subconscious mind to accept the possibility that you can take more control over difficult emotions than you previously believed. Spiritually, most journeyers gain a sense of personal empowerment along with confidence in knowing we are not alone in battling our inner demons.

Descending into the underworld and wrestling with our shadow aspects reveals parts of ourselves we keep hidden. We can use enlightenment already gained to look into the corners of the soul that will always be dark. What one finds there might need to be eliminated, but some dark parts may be essential to a balanced life. Shadowland work helps us become accepting of all parts of ourselves.

Touring Your Own Underworld

I can recommend several particularly well-crafted journey scripts that I’ve taken myself and reaped exceptionally beneficial insights from. They can be found at:
http://home.earthlink.net/~treefaerie/icansee.

Most people, even when experienced and self-trusting, find it difficult to guide their own journeys. Have a friend read a script to you, or use your own voice to tape record one. Unlike most coaching sessions, I don’t recommend doing this over the phone. Here are some tips for helping the descent:

1. Choose a time and place when you won’t be interrupted by phone, people, or other distractions.
2. Use long, slow, deep, breathing to shift out of normal consciousness and into a receptive mental state in which imagery, the intuitive-voice, and direct knowings can present themselves to you.
3. Ask for, or imagine having with you, a guide or protector to attend to psychic safety needs, so that you can be free to hunt information and fully be with what you experience.
4. Follow where imagination leads, and accept whatever occurs in the inner landscape, even if it makes no logical sense.
5. Ask questions, and patiently wait for answers. Be respectful and express gratitude to entities who provide information, direction, insight, or other help.
6. Be firm but polite with imaged or heard entities who want you to act in ways you know to be dangerous or wrong.
7. Record your journey, or journal about your experience as soon as it’s over, or process it with a counselor or friend. This ensures that insights are captured and interpreted before sinking back into the shadows of the unconscious mind.

On her journey, Sherry spoke with the demon that creates in her the sense of being a fraud. She learned what its purpose was, and when it was born. They negotiated a way for the demon to help her buy Viagra sabotaging her creativity.

Mikayla journeyed through an underground tunnel, gave the payment required by the guardian there, discovered where her light sources had been car insurance insurance quote and dialogued with the keeper of her life’s mission. She returned released from feeling lost, and excited about new directions, with fresh energy for bringing her work into the world. Both women learned how to actively be with their frustrations in the process.

The results of an underworld journey can be cause significant change in one’s behavior and feelings. I recommend them to those who are having a hard time with darker emotions. It may not be as scary as it sounds, and you could be pleasantly surprised at the outcome.

With more than 18 years experience as a personal empowerment coach, psychotherapist and certified clinical hypnotherapist, I have many approaches that can help you sit with difficult emotions, battle your inner demons, and traverse your underworld. Did You Know That Anger Makes You Fat?

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

Mimi was donate a car of the ten pounds generic tadalifil had lost on mortgage loan rate comparison new diet and exercise regimen. It was easy and enjoyable. A few days later Mimi was part of a decision making team at work. Arguments and insults flying around made her afraid of giving her opinion. Right then Mimi sensed something was missing. She grabbed a pillow and put in on her abdomen. What a relief! During that stressful moment Mimi missed the ‘padding’ that her fat had provided. The cushion blanketed the messy feeling. Driving home she felt demeaned and diminished. Why was it okay for her colleagues injury at work vent, but no space for her views? Anger frothed up. Her rage felt like a ball of sharp nails ready to lacerate her insides causing a bloody hemorrhage.

She stopped at a store and bought a quart of chocolate ice- cream and a large bag of potato chips. That combination was the her most trusted and true numbing device. Those sharp nails became frozen with layers of reassuring and calming comfort food. No chance of any disgusting leaks of weakness. Keeping her cool was rewarded by yummy admiration and scrumptious respect.

The Bad News

Mimi’s body weight represented both the burden of her undigested emotions and those she swallowed from others by choosing not to be assertive. Mimi believed that she kept her close relationships with friends and family by being an ever absorbing sponge for their awful feelings. They perceived her as tough and indestructible. Keeping it all in was a badge of honor. Emotional constipation was Mimi’s sign of power and resilience. She dealt with overflowing gunky confused emotions by converting the trash into fat. That weight smothered her instincts to express her individuality. The heaviness paralyzed her so she couldn’t take risks with being herself.

Her weight went up and stayed up despite her punishing splurge with personal fitness gurus, coaches, nutritionists and all the advice in the best diet books.

The good news

Eating anesthetized slimy feelings. The weight she carried acted as armor against feeling abused, taken advantage of, and dismissed. Her fat was the one part of her she could trust. Her fat camouflaged her need for love, support and acceptance. Life was a breeze when she didn’t have to ask for those basic things and risk rejection and ridicule.

Yo-Yo weight games

Mimi was successful with diets when she felt strong and an equal player in the world. As soon as that fragile mood was threatened by words of conditional love, put downs, and a dismissal of her opinions Mimi felt naked and vulnerable. Food was the comforter and the weight she gained became a shield against the abuse. The thicker the armor the less chance there was of being destabilized and out of control. The armor plating was solid enough to deodorize the stench of her own chaotic and stinky feelings. The armor did such a good job that she couldn’t distinguish between her own mess and that of others. It also bypassed her emotional thermostat so that she never knew when she couldn’t take any more of other people’s trash. At the point of overflow food was the best way of resetting the switch and lowering the temperature.

Mimi’s quandary: Looking good or feeling strong?

Did she focus on feeling physically attractive by losing fat, or feeling emotionally strong and protected by keeping the fat? Either way, she had to abandon one part of herself - a no win situation.

Emptying the Garbage Before It Turns Into Fat: Stopping the Yo-Yo

  1. Mimi should begin by asking herself the following questions:
    • Why won’t my family and friends like me if I show my feelings?
    • Why is it weak for me to show my feelings and get support?
    • Why am I so good at tolerating everyone else’s overwhelm, and yet disgusted by my own?
    • Why is emotional constipation the only way of feeling strong?
  2. Mimi needs to build a more flexible barrier between herself and others.
    • Armor is rigid and insensitive. Mimi’s boundaries need to have a fine enough mesh to allow some mixing of feelings on both sides. That is mutual empathy and support.
    • A barrier that opened and closed as needed would prevent overwhelm and allow Mimi to distinguish between her stuff and other people’s mess.
    • Giving herself the right to have bad feelings, show them and still receive love and acceptance (just as her friends and family do) will create a balance inside her emotional digestive tract. No more constipation.
    • Distributing the responsibility for relationship regulation and maintenance means that the weight is not dumped on Mimi.
    • Mimi will be attending to all parts of herself without abandoning any aspect.
    • Mimi’s emotional balance and flexible barrier means that she won’t need food to do the job. Her weight will be more consistent and natural for her size.
    • When Mimi is comfortable with herself, her weight will reflect it by getting to an optimum place and staying there.

These tasks are difficult to do alone. Friends and family are part of the problem and cannot help at the outset. An objective professional such as a licensed psychotherapist can be helpful to get Mimi started on her journey and support her through the yo-yo’s until she has the right barriers set up for herself.
