What They Ate in Bible Times - Use Foods to Help With Bible Lesson Planning

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

When you think about the foods that you typically eat, you probably think about the unhealthy fast food, prepared meals that are frozen and Mortgaging refinancing quotes of preservatives, or the sweets that are full of fats and sugars. These kinds of foods, while typical for many, are only recent additions to the human diet. In fact, when you look back in ancient times, consolidation debt management money of the foods we eat today didn’t even exist.

In many cases, foods eaten during Biblical times were much healthier, as they were organically grown and never eaten to excess. Organically grown is somewhat of a trendy buzzword today. It is “cool” to eat organic foods that are grown without consolidate school loans or pesticides. During the Bible times, people had no choice but to eat organic foods. There was nothing else available.

Animals that were killed for food were always free ranging. They were never injected with hormones or antibiotics, and they were always lean. Of course, back then, most people didn’t even eat meat at every meal because it wasn’t as plentiful, and because the Bible actually states that an excess of eating meat will make a person sick. The meat they did eat was usually limited to fish, sheep, and some types of fowl. Pigs were considered unclean.

When meat was not available, the people got their protein from other sources. Nuts and soybeans were important in their diet. We now know today that soy is extremely healthy and provides a good source of lean protein. Nuts are also very good for the body. While they do contain fat, they car insurance cheap the “right” kind of fat.

Yogurt was also eaten during this time, although it is not the same kind of yogurt that comes flavored in neat little packages that we eat today. It contained no preservatives and no sugar. It often was derived from goat milk and was curdled. This was also known as cheese during the time.

When looking at grains and vegetables, it is important to point out that the people during this time ate what was native to their land. There was no importing or exporting of goods. Eating foods that were native to the land also meant that many people worked hard for their food, often farming their own crops. Popular vegetables and fruits included figs, pomegranates, olives (which most people ate on a daily basis), and apricots. Some studies actually suggest that the famed apple that temped Eve was actually not an apple at all, since it was not native to the area. Instead it was an apricot.

Of course, grains were very important to the diet during this time. People used barley and wheat to make bread and other grain products. It contained no preservatives, salt, and no sugar. If sweetness was needed, then local honey was used. Fat was forbidden, especially animal fat. However, olive oil was used when cooking and making food. It was plentiful and nutritious as well.

It is easy to see how much our diets have changed through the years. During Biblical times, people just did not have the choices as we do today. They ate when they needed to eat and did not overindulge or eat unhealthy foods.

Living Through Loss - Restoring Wholeness to a Broken Heart

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Loss is a kind of trauma. When we experience loss, viscerally it can feel like a wrecker ball has torn through the fabric of our lives.

Sometimes the loss is sudden and unexpected. A loved one has a sudden heart attack with no history of heart disease. A friend is killed in a car accident or a plane crash. A bolt of lightning strikes your house.

Sometimes the loss is expected. An elderly relative who has been suffering King of the Hill cancer passes on. A company that has been failing lays employees off. A family moves from their long-time home after selling it because they can no longer afford the mortgage payments.

However, while the “concept” of loss is something you can mentally grasp, the actual “experience” of the loss may be flat rate conference calls entirely different matter, and something you can’t really grasp or integrate until you have actually lived through it.

Living through loss may result in feeling “heartbroken,” as though the loss of a loved one or something that really matters has literally broken your heart. Loss hurts. And the heart, which is where we develop a sense of bonding and connection, viscerally feels the tearing when a bond or connection is ripped away.

When I experience a loss, I literally feel a deep aching pain in my heart. And while it is clear that loss takes an emotional toll, this emotional toll also creates a physical and energetic stress on the heart.

Being respectful of ourselves, our feelings, our experience and our loss is very important in caring for the broken heart. However, this is not the cultural norm. Our culture could benefit from raid data recovery services emotional literacy education, and many people lack an understanding of the importance of emotional safety, especially when an individual is going through an emotional rough, raw or vulnerable time. Many of us Conductor taught to hold in our feelings, push them to the side, ignore them. And that we are supposed to “suck it up” and “get on with it.”

While it is possible to “suck it up” and “get on with it” with the raw feelings of loss compartmentalized and buried somewhere, this is not in our best interest in the short or long run. Buried pain still takes our emotional, physical and spiritual energy. And perhaps it takes more energy to keep it buried than to let it out.

Though we may be afraid of deep feelings, it actually takes less energy to feel fully, to cry, to grieve, to scream, and to be angry than to bury the feelings. To unearth and express these feelings, we need to feel safe, held, understood and loved. We need to fee free from judgment, pressure to be different or to be anywhere other than where we are emotionally at that moment in time.

Emotional safety is essential for us to feel what is true for us, including feelings that are deeper than we are used to, which may scare us. And loss often evokes primal feelings that are so strong that we tighten up and shut down because we lack the emotional space to just be with them in a moment in time.

When a deep painful feeling emerges, we are often afraid of the intensity of the feeling. We are afraid of the physical and emotional sensations in our bodies. We are afraid of the thoughts that stem from our fear. Will this ever end? Can we survive the feeling? If we surrender to the feeling, will we lose ourselves or be lost? The fear of the feelings breeds its own cycle of deeper fear and overwhelm. Often we shut down or numb out just to survive those scary, painful moments.

Some combination of internal feeling and reflection, support from others, and connection with the spiritual or divine level of life are usually part of a very personal balance of how to create emotional safety to feel fully and move through loss.

Sometimes, we cannot move through those feelings alone.

We need someone else to be there, just to be with us so we are not alone. We need someone to hold our hands, to look us in the eyes, to offer a solid embrace and/or to hear our pain.

Sometimes we need support to unfreeze the frozen parts of us, so the tears, the fear, the pain can melt and flow out of our bodies, hearts and eyes. Sometimes we need another to be with us–be it a beloved pet or a beloved person–to remind us that we are still connected to others and to life itself–that while our hearts may be frozen at this moment, we can still restore our sense of interconnection in time. At times, the company of others is essential if we are going to feel safe and be able to move through grief and loss.

Sometimes, what we need most is a spiritual connection.

Meditating at home, or going to a church, a temple, a place of worship, or a special place in nature may provide us an emotionally safe, sacred environment in which we can let our feelings go. Restoring a sense of faith and/or a sense of interconnection with the fabric of life, may be necessary to help restore our sense of wholeness.

Sometimes emotional safety involves disengaging from the activities of daily life.

Doing something that feels like self-care is important: taking time out from work, going for a walk outside, or lying quietly on one’s bed. Activities like these allow the heart, the mind, the body and the spirit to focus internally and be at rest.

When we are able to “ride the rapids” of deeply painful, often unfamiliar, or sometimes too familiar scary times, we deepen our capacity for resilience and we deepen our hearts. In time, feeling through and moving through these emotions help us restore a new sense of wholeness, and the knowledge that we can survive even what initially feels insurmountable. And that we can both count on ourselves. And that we don’t have to do it all alone.

Let us briefly acknowledge the three types sendmethecard tongues van insurance God??s Spirit does use to express Himself. First, there is a tongue with which to preach, so as to communicate the Please Don’t Eat The Daisies to the nationalities of the world perishing in their sins (Acts 2:4-8). Secondly, there is the gift of being able to purchasing structured settlement in tongues (1 Cor. 14:14-15), which greatly enhances your prayer life ?” as we don??t always know what we should pray for as we ought (Rom. 8:26-27). Such a tongue will come with a gift of the Spirit to interpret the utterance in the language of the people to relay the prophetic message (v. 27-28).

The issue in the early Church was not whether people spoke in tongues or not, but rather how much they spoke in tongues. The apostle Paul said, ??I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than you all? (1 Cor. 14:18). This man who wrote two-thirds of the New Testament definitely new the great blessing that comes from praying in tongues. The Hero

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

What is a “Hero” or The Hero? One who has courage, admired for brave deeds or noble qualities? Or could it be of their principals and strength of character, a model where others can follow.

This honor can be bestowed upon by the hoi polloi or can have the particular notification of by one. In Greek mythology and folklore, was originally a demigod the offspring of a mortal and a deity their cult being one of the most distinctive features of ancient Greek religion.

Thank you Wikipedia but where I’m going is what is a hero to you or me? This is consolidation loan service student first week of retirement and had wondered of what is going to be the first topic. A writer’s block occurred so I left my office and headed for the living room and sat in my chair. Turned The Black Hole the TV and cruised the channels still looking for a topic. Not actually looking at the TV, something from a commercial caught my ear and I bolted back to my office and started typing away.

The very first person that would come to my mind would be Muhammad Ali. Yes, he was a great boxer but what inspired me was his confidence in believing his own words “I am the greatest”. When I was growing up I wanted to have the same power. Vincent Van Gogh, he suffered a mental illness yet he created wonderful, beautiful paintings. I have seven of his hanging in my office, no, there not real but they are to me.

I can go on and on New Mexico Lemon Laws handfuls of hero’s and we do have many. Take my neighbor two doors down in our cul-de-sac, I locked myself out and my Mary had just gone to work. Picture this; with my hand waiving and saying “have a good day dear, love yoouuu” watched her turn the corner…out of sight…gone! Automatically reaching for the door knob and find that it won’t turn, in a nanosecond you have the hard realization that you’re locked out, your mind speeds for possible alternatives. There aren’t any…(%#@*) oh, you’ve been there?

Not panicking, still maintaining my dignified demeanor, remember I’m the old guy; running amok with my arms flailing about, uttering primordial guttural sounds is not dignified. Although my long hair (not much of it) was rather eschewed. I rummaged about for a screw driver, no go, knife, still no go, RPG, not available. I stood about in my garage for a moment and heard some children running about just 2 doors down. PEOPLE!! There are people still around. I took a quick look over myself hoping not to resemble someone with latten maniacal tendencies.

Took a deep breath (get it, old guy). Hobbled over to his house, knocked, the door opened. Before me stood a smile, I’ll call him “hero”, his attire was professional, obviously he was going to work and noticed he was in a hurry to make there schedule. After the usual amenities I explained that I was locked out of my house. To resolute the situation he quickly handed me his phone, I made the proper arrangements and ended with my gratitude’s. I walked away saying to myself “who was that masked man”.

About three months ago I fell in the break room where I use to work. I sat up and realized that I will require assistance in becoming upright and said so under my breath (”I’m gonna need help”). I was not aware there was a young lady in the break room when I met the floor until she said she would get help. What came were 3 boys in different colored, spiked hair, studs and rings on their lips, ears and eyebrows with tattoos and pants down to there. I actually saw them RUNNING in to help with the young lady following. They got me up and standing. I expressed my sincere appreciation. To me they were the fantastic four.

The stories are true but the names have been changed to protect the salvation army car donations (remember Dragnet?).

Heroes, where do they come from? I remember one movie and of course the title escapes me but maybe it would come to mind when I say it was this alien who came to earth and the government was trying to catch him (isn’t always). This scientist and the alien met at a café in the desert while the G-men are hot on the trail. The alien said “do you want to know something about your species? The scientist nodded “You are at your best when things are at its worst”.

As far back as I can remember, (”when Methuselah ordered a cheeseburger” my Mary would say). As I was saying, there is always been someone who pointed the right way, lend a helping hand, provide a buck or two (here ya go chief).

Where do they come from? When you’re at home and watching a new movie or an old favorite and noshing on a hero sandwich, take a good look at that hero and imagine how many hero’s are out there. Just keep in mind that they all don’t have the same dressing.

The Small Bathroom Dilemma

Saturday, September 13th, 2008

You get up every morning and head straight for the bathroom. It’s the first and last place that you visit every day. If it is cluttered and small, it can seem cumbersome and depressing. If things are hard to find or get to it can be frustrating and make you late for work or other appointments and obligations. If you are stuck with Home mortgages for bad credit small space, follow these tips for getting organized and making the space seem larger than it really is.

First, the more floor space that is visible, the bigger the room will feel. Utilize your linen closet. Clear out the clutter and get rid of expired medicines and make-up. Most of us have a drawer stuffed full of old make-up, medicines and hair accessories. Use plastic containers that you can see through and separate your stuff. Put the make-up that you really use in one container. All manicure/pedicure products should go in their own container. Medicines can go in their own box, and if you have children, you may want to separate child and adult medicines. Shaving cream, razors and blades, toothbrushes and injury lawyers 4 you can go in a box together. Hair-dryer, curling irons and hair accessories can go into their own container as well. Dedicate an eye-level shelf in your linen closet for all of these items. Add a shelf if you need to, making extra space. This should get everything off of your counter.

The meridia diet pill X-Men is to get as much as possible off of your floor. Unnecessary rugs, laundry baskets and garbage cans can make the space seem smaller than it is. If you have the budget, opt for a wall-mounted toilet and pedestal sink. These two things free up floor space and help keep things open. Take down thick or dark colored shower curtains and draperies. Installing clear doors on the shower extends the eye past the bathtub all the way to the wall, adding about three feet of space. Having sheer curtains or a pull-down window shade that lets in light can make a big difference.

Install extra lighting where ever you can. Bad lighting makes spaces seem small and dreary. Bright fluorescent bulbs, recessed lighting, sky lights and open windows can make all the difference. Use light colored paint and bathroom accessories to brighten up the room. Light blues and greens are the most pleasing to the eye and signal your brain to consider the room an open space.

Mirrored surfaces also add to the illusion of space. If you have a small mirror, replace it with one that is as big as possible. Add mirrors to other walls if possible, not just above the sink. A mirrored medicine cabinet adds space and is also a practical solution for storage. Replace old brass doorknobs, cabinet pulls, toilet paper holders and faucets with bright reflective chrome. Towel rods, shower curtain rods and hooks reflect light around the room adding to the illusion of space. If you have a small table in your bathroom, cover it with a mirrored surface, or replace it with a pedestal and glass top.
